Rick flew down to Cambo to
meet us and the 3 of us headed for Tuscany! Once again, our
neighbors Anne-Marie and Enrico had extended a generous invitation to join
them at their house in Castagneto Carduci, a picturesque Etruscan
village in the heart of the Tuscan riviera. Our 4-day stay
was perfect! Not usual beachgoers, we came away fully converted to
the Italian beach experience! For a reasonable fee, you can rent
lounge chairs and umbrellas at private beaches where you then have
access to showers, bathrooms and a restaurant. That, with small
chidren, is a dream! Alexa definitely loved the water, the
waves, the whole beach scene including gelato after lunch and her first
circus experience (Italian-style!!).

Our little Tuscan escapade
was a small respite from the worsening situation in Cambo. A day
after our return, Annie passed away. Rick made arrangements to
work from home and take care of Alexa as I drove back down to Cambo for
the funeral. Needless to say this was a very emotional time - losing Annie, seeing
my dad in so much pain and being away from my daughter for a week (the
longest time ever!).
I drove back up with
my father, having added more than 5'000 km/ 3'000 miles to my new
RAV4!) and arrived back in Marcellaz, just having
missed Byron's visit. From what I heard the 2 men
and Alexa had a ball hiking and hanging out! The weather was gorgeous
and although I was told my culinary skills were somewhat missed, Rick
and his Weber stepped in, making Byron's long-awaited visit a rousing
success. Byron - thanks for providing us with some great
pictures of our mountains!
